Shartak

It's been years since I've played Shartak. I think the last time was in 2007, so it's been nearly seven years now since I've been away. My main character, Timothy Trust, was a "gentleman pirate" years ago, but in the ensuing years since, I think he's gone a bit mad after being shipwrecked somewhere for the last seven years. Who knows what he'll do now?

Yes, I still exist.

I just never use LiveJournal anymore.

But if anyone can think of a good use for LiveJournal, I might consider the idea of perhaps, quite possibly posting once in a while... maybe.

Recruiting writers for a wikinovel (collaborative fiction)

I've started up a Google Site that acts like a wiki in that all collaborators on the site can edit any page. I've called this site BLAMguard, for lack of a better name, and I created it because I miss writing the kinds of RPG-like collaborative fiction that I used to do with the MBL, TOMB, and Vanguard in various forums.

Anyway, I'm looking for writers seriously interested in collaborative fiction. Rather than writing planned-out, solo-written stories, I'd like all site collaborators to directly follow up each chapter in a story, using characters created by others as well as those created themselves. If you're interested in such a venture, send me an IM with a short note explaining what interests you about it, and include your email address.

Last week I wrote the first chapter in a wikinovel based on a concept I'd originally thought of (but never used) called "The Chrononauts." It's a time travel team story in the sci-fi genre. I chose this kind of concept so that each story can take place in a different era or parallel universe. It's a great way to explore interesting history, ideas of the future, or fantastic parallel worlds. Take a look at the site here: http://sites.google.com/site/blamguard/Home

For now, I'd like to keep the new writing on the site to this one wikinovel. If it's successful, and if we can attract enough writers, another wikinovel could be started eventually. (I may also be posting older written stories of the MBL, TOMB, or Vanguard to archive them online, but they're not meant to be continued.)

I got this from backwards7. Frankly, I'm not all that surprised. I'm an old man in a young man's body (assuming early 30s is still young).

5 Kirby 1950s DC Sci-Fi Tales

This is what I've posted to scans_daily:

Jack Kirby illustrated a few science fiction stories for DC Comics in the late 1950s. These are all from early issues of Tales of the Unexpected.

This is "The All-Seeing Eye," from Tales of the Unexpected #12:

This is "The Magic Hammer," from Tales of the Unexpected #16. This story features the mighty god Thor, not to be confused with the Marvel version he co-created with Stan:

This very cool-looking story is "The Man Who Collected Worlds," from Tales of the Unexpected #18:

And finally, this is "The Giants from Outer Space," from Tales of the Unexpected #23 (the cover's not by Kirby, of course):

This is my first scans_daily community post. My livejournal mostly contains Aquaman snark, plus a few other things that amuse me.

Kirby desktop background

Just thought I'd share this nifty Kirby desktop background I made from a page published in Tales of the Unexpected #12. The story is called "The All-Seeing Eye," and it comes from the early 1950s when Kirby was doing a lot of genre work in comics. I added a bit of flair (in the form of sparks, not buttons) to the piece but otherwise did little to alter it. Quite a nice image overall.
